Care

Please note that jewelry care is different depending on the materials of each piece.

Gold plating is a thin layer of gold is bonded onto a base metal. It is a important to know that there are different methods used when applying the gold plating. Gold plated jewelry is real gold. However, it depends on how thick a layer of gold was used, what is the base material, and the process used to do it.

Gold filled is often better than gold plated pieces. High quality gold filled pieces can last for 5 to 20 years if well cared for.

Sterling silver usually has a purity of at least 92.5%, meaning that 7.5% of the alloy is made of copper or another metal (usually nickel or zinc). Sterling silver can last 20-50 years if well cared for and/ or not worn often.

It is often a misconception that gold plated and sterling silver do not tarnish or lose plating over time. Even stainless steel can tarnish. Anyone who says that these will never tarnish and last forever is wrong.
